Q Paper #2 • Compare Harriet Jacobs’ Incidents to the portrayal of one group of women in Thavolia Glymph’sWomen’s Fight. • The most straightforward way to do this is to ask: Taking the books together, what are the key factors that shaped the lives of enslaved women? To answer this question, begin your own note taking by comparing and contrasting the portrayals, then ask yourself which of the areas of difference and similarity matter the most and what they tell you. Then write a thesis that reflects your answer (not your notetaking along the way) and a paper that develops your argument in well-organized body paragraphs with clear topic sentences stating the purpose of each paragraph and with quotes and evidence as support. • If you want to instead compare the portrayal of white southern women in the two books or the portrayal of white northern women, you can do that and follow the same process. • 750-1000 words. Thesis: Slavery is horrible for all genders but more hostile to the women. Enslaved women took massive risks and underwent suffering in their search of freedom, often having to make cautious calculations about which individuals around them to trust. The sexual harassment for women slaves makes the practice more hostile. Slavery before the Civil War was significant for economic growth to the southern states and generally the United States as a nation. Regardless of the various slavery tales that have been narrated, what stands out is that the practice offered basis for people to understand women oppression and fight for equality. Slavery gave rise to women writers and activists who were determined to let the world know about their experiences.
